Extraditions
Extradition
is a legal process in which a person is transferred from the country
where he is located (the requested country) to the requesting country
in order to face prosecution for a crime, or if already convicted, to
serve his sentence. The participants in extradition are the two countries
and the individual who is the subject of the proceedings.
Extradition
proceedings are based on treaties between the countries, and are subject
to the laws, procedures and policies of the requested country. For example,
if the United States is seeking to bring a person from Colombia to the
United States for prosecution of an offense that occurred in the United
States, then the United States is considered the “requesting country”
and Colombia the “requested country.”
While the
United States has extradition treaties with more than 100 countries,
the office of Neil M. Schuster, P.A., specializes in cases dealing with
Latin America (Central America, South America, Mexico and the Caribbean).
Mr. Schuster is an international extradition criminal defense lawyer,
versed in the laws and procedures governing extradition, and in the
details of the relevant extradition treaties; as such, he can have a
significant impact on the extradition process. In addition, if someone
is extradited, his prosecution and sentencing may be favorably impacted
by having Mr. Schuster involved from the inception of the proceedings.
If you
are a citizen of any Latin American country and think you may be subject
to extradition proceedings to the United States, you should call the
Law Office of Neil M. Schuster.
If you
are an American citizen facing international charges in Latin American,
or if you know of someone in this situation, contact the Law Office
of Neil M. Schuster.
Mr. Schuster
can also assist a person convicted of a crime in one country in the
transfer to his country of citizenship to serve the remainder of a criminal
sentence through the International Prisoner Transfer Program. Family
members should contact Mr. Schuster's office. It is imperative to hire
competent counsel to prepare the transfer application and to function
as an advocate for the prisoner’s interests.
